Fog Seal

A roadway fog seal is a preventive maintenance technique used to seal and protect the pavement surface of a roadway. It involves the application of a thin layer of asphalt emulsion to the surface of the pavement, which penetrates the existing surface and seals any cracks or voids.

Tack Coat

A tack coat is a thin layer of asphalt emulsion that is applied to an existing pavement surface before a new layer of asphalt is placed on top. The purpose of the tack coat is to bond the new layer of asphalt to the existing pavement surface and create a smooth, durable surface.

Prime Coat

A roadway prime coat is a layer of asphalt emulsion or asphalt binder that is applied to a prepared surface, such as a gravel base, before the placement of an asphalt pavement. The prime coat is used to provide a bond between the base and the asphalt layer, and to seal the base to prevent moisture from entering and causing damage to the pavement.

Asphalt Interlayers

Paving fabrics create a moisture barrier between older and newer layers of pavement and also slow down the reflective cracking process. The process can be installed on any surface from highways to your own driveway. Fabric installation is also less expensive than full lift asphalt overlay.

Benefits of Paving Support Services

  • Prime Coat – A prime coat is applied to a granular base as the road is prepared for asphalt surfacing and consists of low-viscosity asphalt. The prime coast binds loose material to the base and hardens the base surface. It also plugs capillary holes in the base surface and provides the adhesion agent needed between the base and the additional course.
  • Tack Coat – A Tack Coat ensures the integrity of the asphalt layers as it binds all the successive asphalt layers together to prevent layer separation. This is an essential process in the correct construction of a road.
  • Fog Seal – Fog sealing is a process that seals open pores of new asphalt. A light coat of asphalt emulsion is spread over the chip seal. Fog seal reduces the amount of loose gravel, gives the road a smooth appearance, improves snow melting and the darkness of the fog seal allows for better visibility of road markings.
